Tachyon uses the Dimensionator to bring back the cragmites. The Dimensionator was discovered by Ratchet on Kerchu City, which was then seized by the pirates, recovered by Ratchet, stolen by Qwark, and then seized by Tachyon, who caught Qwark attempting to destroy it. It is implied that during this time, Angela Cross flees Bogon with Max Apogee's help, likely using the Dimensionator to go to the lombax dimension before its discovery by Ratchet on Kerchu City. Tachyon tracks Ratchet to Solana and attempts to kill him. Max Apogee discovers the Dimensionator on his travels and hides it in Kerchu City away from space pirates, who had been used by Tachyon to search for the device. Tachyon likely used this period to cement his control over the Polaris galaxy. Kaden hides the Dimensionator on Rykan V and sends Ratchet to Solana, himself returning to Polaris to confront Tachyon. Azimuth is exiled as punishment for blindly trusting and aiding Tachyon. This effort is hampered by the fact that the lombaxes were scattered across too many dimensions, Rivet likely being the descendant of one such lombax family, or at least she was sent away via the Dimensionator somehow. In the run-up to this, Mags speeds up his mapping, and upon completion, Kaden uses the Dimensionator to send all the lombaxes away, except for himself and infant Ratchet. Lombaxes probably also travelled to other dimensions during this period and settled them. Mags carries out his mapping of the dimensions and the redesign of the Dimensionator. The post-war period, where Tachyon is raised by the lombaxes, discovers his origins, and sets out to deceive and destroy them. The lombaxes invent the original point-and-shoot Dimensionator and defeat the cragmites. To me, the timeline surrounding the lombaxes and the Dimensionator is as follows: Rivet refers to the lombax dimension as Ratchet and Rivet's homeĪll these point to the lombaxes having a common home in Ratchet's dimension, on planet Fastoon in the Polaris galaxy. Ratchet refers to the Dimensionator as if there were only one version of it (the "original") and that it simply went through multiple designs. Hence, the name dropping of Kaden is a hint that he is indeed Ratchet's father as introduced in ACiT, and Rivet is likely from another lombax lineage we do not yet know of. True dimensional counterparts appear to have similar appearances, but different names, bar any contrary evidence i.e. Now, as to why in ToD the Dimensionator was already presented in the "hat" form on Rykan V as part of an initiation video during the Great War (which predated the redesign, which happened after the Great War), or why Clank's redesign of the Dimensionator followed the original schematics - I can't say for sure. He mentions specifically that this was an "unofficial" upgrade from the Dimensionator's original point-and-shoot design, which corresponds to the schematics Kit downloaded from the Archives the "unofficial" nature of the redesign could explain why the hat design wasn't saved in the Archives. Mags references the design of the Dimensionator as presented to us in the Future series - a voice-operated machine worn on the head. This heavily implies that after the invention of the Dimensionator during the Great War, the lombaxes become a dimension-travelling race. Mags states that the lombaxes were scattered across too many dimensions. If you go through the Lorbs in greater detail, and think about the nuances of this "dimensional counterpart" thing in detail, you should make the following observations:
